AIM: This study aims to examine the effect of music therapy beginning from the period prior to operation on pain perception, the level of anxiety, physiologic parametres (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart beat rate, inhilation, body temperature), the amount of the use if analgesic and the duration of the stay in hospital of the patients who have had CABG operation. For such an aim, the sudy has been planned as randomise controlled trials.

MATERIAL-
METHODS:
The study was carried out in Cardiovascular Surgery Department of the Private Hospital in Afyonkarahisar. 112 patiens who had CABG operations between 1 March 2011 and 31 October 2011 made up the population of the study. The data collection tools used in the study are as follows: informed consent form, patient identification form, patient follow-up form before and after the operation, VAS (Visual Analog Scale) pain scale (49) to assess the level of pain, STAI-I and STAI-II to determine the level of anxiety. The sample of the study to represent the population was 68 patients, 34 of whom were included in the control group and 34 in the experiment group.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Percentage, mean (X), standart deviation (SS), Chi-square (X2), Mann Whitney U test were used in oorder to evaluate the data.

RESULTS: It was determined that there was a meaningful statistcial difference (p<0.05) between the control and experiment groups in terms of pulse rate, SpO2 in ICU, the pain percieved in ICU and surgery service, the amount of analgesic used in ICU and surgery service.
The findings of the study show that the music therapy in coronary artery bypass operations decreases the level of pain and anxiety and that it has positive effect on the amount of analgesic usage. The findings also suggests that the music thearpy should be used for the patiens to have CABG.
